I find that very useful myself. My husband and I are talking about aesthetically improving the fireplace and I suggested painting the wall behind the stove (inside the fireplace) in black. I got a NOPE! Then, after I showed him this picture he got more into it:
You don't necessarily have to give up your pink living-room dream if you balance it with masculine pieces, let it be pillows on a leather couch. In the same way, consider blending his peculiar collection in a way which is pleasant for you as well.
Opt for a neutral sofa and dress it with a blend of pillows that will be appealing for both. Think colours, patterns and textures. You can live with a leather pillow if you pair it with an Ikat patterned pillow.
Keep the balance between your different styles: your partner may prefer "your" chair if it is upholstered in a fabric which reflects more his/her taste.
Leather and wood are great materials to use for the addition of a masculine touch, they will balance feminine items and add warmth in a minimalist interior.
Still having difficulties? Consider hiring an interior designer (moi)!
